They are all "OUR" kids!!!
I am constantly asked by mentees how to improve academics for students with disabilities. I have wanted to write a book about how Mastery and strong Instructional Leadership can and does move the needle as it happens everyday. A few key points to remember as a leader:
1. Don't assume your staff including admin know the process for identifying a student with a disability.
2. As a leader learn about interventions. It's your job also.
3. Growth is not just about IEP goals.
4. Please, Instructional Leaders forbid the terminology of these are not "my" students. They are all our students.
The book on Mastery does address some of these items but I feel empowered to research and continue to determine which Evidence-Based practice works best for students with disabilities. Especially in areas of immense poverty.
